The Riots

The riots in the UK in the summer of 2011 were for many a bolt from the blue exposing some fascinating home truths about our society. Amongst the most surprising, was data on the riots which seemed to reveal an unusually high level of involvement of young people from all walks of life.

This raises a poignant question – Is social exclusion spreading? With more and more children feeling neglected as parents struggle to maintain a work/life balance, children are frequently left to fend for themselves in a world that is unfamiliar and daunting.

The Westminster Debate, “Supporting families after the riots and the role of family law”, which takes place on Monday 12^th December, 2011 in The House of Commons will look at how, in the wake of the summer riots, the family justice system can play a vital role in supporting families and children, and encouraging family values in today’s complex world.
