Get to know the members of the APPG on Family Law better! Below are the current members of the group and a little bit about them:

John Hemming MP:

John Hemming is The Group’s chairman, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley and the founder of Justice for Families; an organisation dedicated towards helping families who feel they have been unjustly treated by the family courts.

A Scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford, John studied Theoretical, Atomic and Nuclear Physics. John is also a keen mathematician and won the Reform Maths prize in 2008 after which he was subsequently named “Britain’s brainiest MP”.

Baroness Ruth Deech:

Baroness Deech is a british lawyer, academic and bioethicist. Baroness Deech acquired a First in Law at St. Anne’s College, Oxford and has served as Senior Proctor at the University of Oxford and more recently as the current law professor at Gresham College, London.

Baroness Deech’s distinguished career saw her honoured as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2002 for her contributions to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

Although Baroness Deech and John Hemming are the active voices of The Group, the APPG is also made up of other peers and members of the House of Commons. The full list can be accessed here.
