Our first open event, which takes place on Tuesday 2nd November, 2010 in The House of Commons is the debate “What is marriage? What should it be?”. A vanguard debate on the meaning of marriage, the debate will look at the significance of this definition in family law and its impact on ancillary relief today.
Guest Speaker and panel member for the debate is Mr. Justice Mostyn with Baroness Deech chairing the debate and John Hemming also joining the panel.
Mr. Justice Mostyn was called to the Bar in 1980 and is a member of Inner Temple. From 1997 to 2000, he was an assistant recorder and is now a High Court judge in the Family Division. During his time as a practicing barrister, Mr Justice Mostyn specialised in ancillary relief matters and came to be known as the leading family lawyer of his generation. On 11th May, 2010, Mr Justice Mostyn was awarded a knighthood.
